the lost reflection

when I separated the render layers in foreground and background and rendered them w/ the batch render, I cannot see the tree reflected by the cubes of the city. It does make sense, as the trees are not in the same render layer. But how can I make this happen?

  1. well, in most shots its not going to matter, most people wont be noticing that detail, and if you are blurring the background anyways, then don't worry.

    If you want the tree to show up though in specific shots, you have 2 options:

    1-add the tree to the render layer with the background, but do a render stats override in the object's shapenode in the attribute editor, making sure the tree is only visible in reflections.

    2- or you could render out a 3rd pass: a reflections pass, then composite that in as well as an add.
